With the Me 262 came a new breed of pilots, the jet fighter pilot. These Luftwaffe pilots were the first to fly and fight while riding the thrust of a turbojet instead of the traditional prop. While these men did enjoy the advantage of being able to fly faster then their enemy, there were also many disadvantages to their hi-tech airplanes which made flying the Me 262 a very demanding task. Engine failures, short endurance, limited ammo load and vulnerability during takeoffs and landings were the most notable difficulties that an Me 262 pilot faced.
